Ingredients (Serves 12, 1 Pizza)
1 (.25 ounce) package active dry yeast
1 cup warm water
2 cups whole wheat flour (or KAMUT Flour
1/4 cup ground flaxseed (or wheat germ)
1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon honey
Directions for Making Whole Wheat Pizza
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in the warm water. Let stand 10 minutes, or until creamy.
In a large bowl add the whole wheat flour, ground flaxseed (or wheat germ) and salt. Mix thoroughly. Create a well
in the center and add the honey and yeast mixture. Mix until the ingredients are just incorporated (do not over-knead or the pizza dough will be tough).
Cover and set in a warm place to rise for 5 minutes.
Roll whole wheat dough on a floured baking sheet or pizza pan. Poke some holes in the dough with a fork. Allow to rise another 5 minutes.
Bake in preheated oven for 15 minutes. Add desired pizza toppings then bake for an additional 15 minutes.
For a crispier whole wheat pizza crust, broil for an additional minute at the end of baking.
Substitutions and Additions
Be creative with the dough, mix in different spices to add more flavor to this whole wheat pizza crust (e.g. rosemary, garlic, etc.).
